Now that a day has gone by, everybody has slept off their respective ailments, and the police still haven't called, I think it is safe to share a little bit of information about the "Greatest Holiday Pub Crawl Ever.(TM)"
Based on an event I heard my friend Terry talk about last year, I invited all my friends (and their friends) out for a tour of Toronto's pubs, bars, and restaurants as part of the 1st Annual 12 Bars of Christmas party. Starting at 6pm on Friday, a group of eight folks left from Bar #1 (Vivid Lounge) and headed to Bar #2 (Hooters... because our other choice was full) and suddenly eight became ten. By Bar #4, the crew had multiplied again and suddenly we were rolling 15 deep.
Spending about 30 minutes at each place gave us enough time for a drink, perhaps a quick plate of nachos, and in some cases some table hockey or a game of arcade style punching contest (Josh thinks he broke his hand). People were dressed in costumes ranging from Santa hats to Christmas bows, and in one girl's case, some provocatively placed bells.
By the end of the night, we had visited all 12 Bars on the tour and as many as 21 people showed up for at least a few of them. Prizes were awarded, drinks were consumed, Christmas spirit was overwhelming and the event was a resounding success. Already, plans were being made for next year.
It was a blast, and now it's time to think about REAL Christmas, not the boozy kind. I'm off to Alberta on Wednesday.
